STUdents Miriam Udoh and Gabriel Prah Awarded International Student Scholarships from the New Brunswick Multicultural Council

STUdents Gabriel Prah and Miriam Udoh were awarded New Brunswick Multicultural Council (NBMC) International Student Scholarships in recognition of their academic excellence, leadership and community impact.
The pair were two of 14 recipients chosen from more than 500 applicants across the province.
The $2,000 scholarships recognize the significant contributions of international students who are driving the province’s growth. For Prah and Udoh, the award allows them to make the most of their time at STU — taking advantage of small classes and opportunities to give back on campus and beyond.
“This scholarship means a lot to me. It feels good to know that my hard work at STU and in the community is being noticed and supported,” said Prah, who is in the Bachelor of Social Work program.
Prah, from Ghana, has been actively involved in campus and community life, serving as president of the Black Students’ Association, the African Ambassador for the International Students’ Association, and a volunteer with BIPOC initiatives, the New Brunswick African Association, and the STU Food Bank. He also supports youth and seniors in care outside of campus.
“Being involved in the community has really shaped my time at STU. It’s given me a sense of belonging, helped me grow as a leader, and encouraged me to keep finding ways to contribute, whether that’s through events, volunteering, or supporting other students,” he said.
Udoh, who is studying International Relations, described the award as an affirmation that her hard work, resilience, and dedication to the community are recognized and valued.
“I am so grateful for the scholarship, which encourages me to keep working hard, pursuing my studies, and engaging in extracurricular activities,” she said.
Udoh, from Nigeria, has served as president of the African and Caribbean Society, volunteered at the Fredericton Soup Kitchen, and was a member of STU’s Campus Ministry. She also works on campus as a Tour Ambassador.
